In January 2010, Pay What You Want Online, will be declaring itself as a social
enterprise and will be rebranding to Pay WHO You Want Online. Our mission is to
generate profit and awareness for artists and social issues affecting our community.
As a strong, forward-thinking, community minded organization we believe in giving
back to the rightful shareholders of the organization, such as the artists and the
community.
Pay Who You Want Online is now offering all artists an opportunity to be innovative
and to make a change by choosing to distribute their music with us. At PWYWO, we
ensure fair compensation and treat artists with the dignity and respect they deserve.
We provide them with opportunities to showcase, promote and distribute their music
online as 100% legal mp3 downloads. We do not force exclusivity and we claim no
rights to the artist’s material. There is no fee for them to register or uploads
their music for distribution. We offer to the artists, free promotions: through
print, online, on-screen (in movie theatres) and more. Through our concerts, artists
will have the opportunity to perform and increase their visibility, get paid for
their performances and draw fans to the website to increase their music sales. We
aim to decrease the expenses an artist would incur by covering some of their costs,
meanwhile increasing their revenue by promoting music sales and offering paid concerts.
PWYWO challenges fans to not only be well informed before they purchase music, but
for them to consciously make a change by choosing to download music from an organization
that is fighting for change. To the fans, PWYWO offers transparency, awareness on
social issues, absolute control and choice. Fans select a rate they wish to contribute.
This rate is then broken down so fans can see exactly where their money is going
and how much of it. Regardless of what rate the fans choose to pay for a song or
album, the artists are guaranteed a fair base rate; PWYWO takes a small fee to cover
the administrative costs; the remainder is allotted to a cause by default. The fans
have the option to add the remainder to the artist’s portion, leave it for the social
initiative, or both, based on where their values rest.
